They require at least 2 to 3 hours a day in their cages to get physical exercise and mental stimulation. They love playing games, learning tricks, and listening to music. They also enjoy going to parks and playgrounds as well as hiking and going to local bars and restaurants. They are not just an excellent pet, but is also a great companion for children.
Despite their adoring nature however, these birds can be loud and can be a nuisance for those living close by. They can make high-pitched screech-calls and ear-piercing calls, which could be a problem in condos and apartments or in close proximity to children who might be startled by their roar.
This species is also monomorphic. Females and males are difficult to differentiate. Because of this, the only way to reliably determine sex is through DNA testing. Once sex has been determined pairing the birds can be attempted and breeding may begin.

Lolita's Care
Since the 1960s, activists have been pleading for Lolita to retire from performing tricks at Miami Seaquarium. They also have urged her to be relocated into an open-water pen. After the 1993 movie Free Willy sparked public outrage over the return of orca Keiko into the wild, those who fought for her hoped that Lolita would have a similar fate. Unfortunately, she didn't get the chance to go back to the ocean.
Lolita's captors - the Dolphin Company - have ignored the advice of a veterinarian and continue to put her in danger. They harm her health by forcing Lolita to perform for tourists. They push her to the limit with high-speed circles and head-first diving, which exposes her to chlorine and cause her to lose weight. They also place her in a tank one-and-a-half times smaller her natural habitat.
Fortunately, in 2022 the new owner of Miami Seaquarium pledged to work with an organization of Lolita advocates known as Friends of Toki and the Lummi tribe, who consider her to be a family member, on a plan to eventually transport her to the open water. The plan included a facility in Washington's westcoast where she could spend the remaining days receiving human care and be monitored by scientists. The sanctuary pen was to be hundreds of time larger than her Miami house and was surrounded by ocean, but not concrete tanks.
If the plan had been successful, Lolita (also called Tokitae or Toki) could be alive. In the wild, killers whales are social animals who are close to their families until they die. Lolita has been a captive at Seaquarium for the past 40 years. People from all over the country have demanded Lolita's release from Seaquarium and eventual release in the wild. Lolita's Diet

Lolita's Health

The move comes following years of public pressure as well as from PETA, that the Miami Seaquarium release Lolita into a sanctuary at sea where she can swim in the ocean, and possibly even meet the orca believed to be her mother. These plans were too late to save the whale who died on Friday as a result of what was believed to be a kidney issue.
